The Guayaberos are a tribal group in Colombia.
Traditionally nomads, they eventually settled in one place to fish, hunt and gather food in the forests. Because of the expansion of other groups, they have moved into the tropical rain forest areas. They once had rectangular communal homes but now each family has their own dwelling.
Most are involved with raising livestock and growing cassava, sweet potatoes, bananas, pineapples and corn. They make and sell handicrafts.
The Guayaberos get married young. Girls get married at 12 and boys at 14.
They believed the world was divided into levels occupied by humans, spirits and mythological beings. Spirits can help or hinder your daily lives, depending on how you treat them. Shamans are experts at dealing with the spirit world, and they have much status in Guayabero society.
They blend traditional beliefs with Roman Catholicism. There is an Evangelical presence among them.
They are vulnerable to outsiders. The Guayaberos will need to adjust to life in the 21st century.
Pray for loving Christians to give Guayaberos job training so they will be prepared for an uncertain future.
Pray for them to answer the call of the Holy Spirit to look to God for all their spiritual and physical needs.
Pray for Guayabero disciples to make more disciples in Colombia.
